Miso Soup: A Must-Have at the Dinner Table

On everyday Japanese dining tables, there is miso soup as a comforting cup. The aroma of miso, made by fermenting soybeans, is a reassuring flavor that makes Japanese people feel as though they have “come home.”

The ingredients vary widely—such as tofu, wakame seaweed, and seasonal vegetables. What is interesting is that each household has its own “family taste,” and although it is simple, it never becomes tiresome.

Tonight’s Dinner Table at Our Home

Even on busy days, having just one bowl of warm miso soup makes the table feel gentler. This was a small glimpse into everyday life in Japan.
